Farm Safety Day Held In Putnam County

Third graders in Putnam County took home farm safety lessons Tuesday. The Lima News reports more than 500 kids visited the Dale Gerding Farm in Ottawa for the 20th annual Farm Safety Day. Ruth Gerding tells the newspaper that while the event focuses on farm safety, its lessons apply to everyone.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office talked to the children about gun and water safety. The OSU Extension Office went over chemical, lawn mower, and grain bin safety issues. Mercy Health showed the kids that chemicals can look like sports drinks, and told them if they don’t know what’s in a cup to dump it out and get a new cup.
