Community Day in Carey

Wow is the first word that comes to mind when I think of our community day in Carey yesterday. I knew it was going to be a good day when I had people calling into the studio the day before we were going to be there, telling me they were excited and couldn’t wait to see us broadcast live from some of their favorite places.

From the moment Big Dave began his broadcast early in the morning at CSP, we all knew it was going to be a special day. We were reminded of that feeling when members of Carey’s High School band performed the National Anthem during Rex’s broadcast at Kurtz Family Store. Every employee, customer, business, listener, and resident made us feel special and that Carey’s community was really something to treasure. We even met listeners who didn’t live in Carey, who drove in just to say hi and check out the community.

I did my broadcast from Frederick’s IGA, and I have to thank every employees there, especially Doug, who is the manager. He welcomed every customer personally as if they were longtime friends (and in many cases, actually were). It was a constant reminder of how special and tight-knit Carey really is. I also want to thank Angelo’s Pizza from bringing over a stuffed-crust pizza to my broadcast. I cherished every single delicious bite!

If you ever have a day, or even just a few hours, free…I highly recommend getting out of your home and traveling to one of the small towns around you. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the out of this world homemade food, the warm and inviting atmosphere, and the quaint family-owned businesses.

Thank you, Carey, for being so welcoming! We already miss you, and your mouth-watering food.
