Happy 2020!
As we move on to a new year, a new decade, I thought I would take the time to reflect a little bit on 2019.
I always find it funny when people say they can’t wait for the ending year to be over. I can’t count how many posts I read on social media where someone said “so excited for 2019 to be over”, or “2020 can’t be any worse than 2019 was”. I completely understand that not everyone had a great 2019, it truly was a hard year. It was full of local, national, and international ups and downs that would make anyone upset and feel uneasy about life.
But let’s focus on the positives. Since you’re reading this right now, that means you made it through 2019. You lived through another year, which is a wonderful thing. Struggles teach us lessons about ourselves. They teach us who we are, maybe who we shouldn’t be, and the realities of life verses what they are perceived to be. So if you feel that 2019 was a struggle, leave the struggle there, and work on seeing the light on the other side, which in this case would be 2020 and the new decade. Yes, this is easier said than done, but trust me, it is possible. At the end of every day, I ask myself to list five things I was grateful for that day. Sure there are days where it’s tough to come up with five, but I make it happen. Since I started doing this, I’ve realized that life isn’t always as bad as you think it is, and how we take for granted so many things in life that are common to us, like clean water, transportation, and shelter. Hopefully if you start to ask yourself what you’re grateful for each day, you’ll feel a little better about life, so that way you’re not waiting for the ending year to be over, but rather, you’re thankful for it as you anticipate the upcoming year.
It’s our turn to have a “roaring 20s”, so lets have a good time!
