2018 CMA Awards Winners

If the 2018 CMA Awards taught us anything, it’s to not always bet on the obvious choice. It was no surprise that Chris Stapleton took home the award for Male Vocalist of the Year and Song of the Year, but Keith Urban winning Entertainer of the Year…even Keith was shocked by that (his face said it all). I was ecstatic he won. He truly deserved it. Another person that truly deserved their win was Kacey Musgraves for Album of the Year. She’s finally getting the national credit and recognition she deserves with her latest album “Golden Hour”, and I couldn’t be happier for her.

The performances last night were true CMA Awards style entertainment. A mix of female and male performers, collaborations, toe tappers and ballads, they were all there. Three performances stood out for me. The Ricky Skaggs performances were refreshing. It was nice to see traditional country getting the spotlight. Kacey Musgraves and her performance of “Slow Burn” was just incredible. You could tell the audience was in awe with the thunderous applause that followed. But for me, the performance of the night had to go to Garth Brooks and his new song “Stronger Than Me”. Not only did he dedicate it to Trisha Yearwood, but she was hearing it for the first time that night, just as we were. It’s a truly beautiful song, and a simple yet impactful performance that I don’t think I’ll ever forget.
